~ DOG OF THE MONTH ~
October
Each month starting in February 2024, the PDS team will be choosing a dog at random to participate in this fun feature.
If chosen the PDS team will contact you for information. We can't wait to introduce the amazing dogs that play at PDS to all of you!
The Golden Retriever, an exuberant Scottish gundog of great beauty, stands among North America's most popular dog breeds.
They are serious workers at hunting and field work, as service dogs, and in search-and-rescue, excel in obedience and dog sports, and have an endearing love of life when not at work.
Goldens are outgoing, trustworthy, and eager-to-please family dogs. They take a joyous and playful approach to life and maintain this puppyish behavior into adulthood.
We are excited this month to highlight a wonderful example of the Golden Retriever, a dog who embodies the spirit of his breed, lives live to the fullest with his happy, outgoing and playful nature. Tony, AKA: Stay Golden Tony Boy, Space Cadet, Squeak, Tone-Tone or as his PDS friends lovingly refer to him Tony Baloney, he is a 2-year-old field line Golden Retriever, his owners’ (Angie & Steve) first sport dog who after a lot of nudging & encouragement, entered their first ever trial in March 2024.
Now they are hooked! Tony’s owners say he is truly the happiest dog. He is joy in living form.
It is impossible to be sad or down-in-the-dumps when he’s around. He is always up for anything! Big or small adventures, you can count him in.
He has big golden energy, and he suffers from FOMO. When he’s excited, it leaks out in squeaks and barks (that’s how he got one of his nicknames: Squeak).
Tony loves posing for pictures and is a natural showman. Tony loves using his nose.
Some of his other passions in life are intensely watching Hudson & Rex while sitting awkwardly on the couch, chasing the hose spray, destroying stuffed toys in record setting times, and zoomies in the yard.
He lives for making people smile. Tony loves to learn, work, and play which has made him a natural when it comes to the dog sports they enjoy.
Tony trains in and competes in a wide variety of dog sports including, Sports: Rally Obedience where they are hoping to compete soon, he dabbles in agility for fun and exercise (for now) and has started Mantrailing.
He also competes in UpDog Disc and Tricks Dog where he has earned the following titles NTD, ITD, ATD, NTD-M, ITD-M.
He’s been working on his doggy paddle since he was a puppy and their goal for next summer is to get him into dock diving!
At PDS we see Tony regularly at our NASDA and Barn Hunt trials where he always brings a smile to everyone’s face.
Tony has earned the following NASDA titles: SD-1, UL-1, TL-1, LI-1) Tony is working on his SD-1X, UL-2, TL-2, LI-2 and hoping to complete those titles before the end of October.
As of July 31, Tony was ranked #2 for SD-1.
In Barn Hunt tony holds his RATI and RATN titles and will be working towards RATO at the next PDS trial.
We love watching this team compete and can’t wait to see where they go next, their future is bright!
Congratulations Tony on being named Prairie Dog Sports Dog of the Month for October 2024!
